Peugeot 307 Handbook Manual PDF
PEUGEOT’S ALTERNATIVE TO
the Ford Escort, the 306, was
always regarded as a benchmark
model in its heyday. Maybe not for quality
or finish, but in dynamic terms, it was a cut
above the average, especially as a diesel.
Great things are therefore expected of its
replacement and this hatch has hatched
with a distinctly different look, very akin to
the new Honda Civic.
The idea of the build-’em-tall,
cab-forward styling is to find more room
inside, with seat cushions higher off the
floor; this means that no-one has to sit
semi-recumbent.
It works, too, with an unusual-for-
Peugeot loftier driving stance that’s spoilt
only by inadequate lumbar support. Actual
dimensions at the back (for people and
luggage) are little improved on the 306,
but it’s comfortable, none the less.
Lots of oddments room compensates for
a modest load deck with a high rear sill,
but the full-size spare wheel is accessed
from inside now.
It’s well known that Peugeot is good at
suspension design, but we confess to
some disappointment with our test car’s
jittery ride – maybe the LX on 65 series
tyres will be more compliant than our
Rapier. There’s no criticism of its steering
or cornering prowess, however.
We’re impressed by the generous array
of safety features that are standard on
even the cheapest 307, but on test, we
found the brakes’ pedal response too light
when there isn’t an emergency.

A well equipped car
As the replacement for the Peugeot 306, the
new 307 model would be expected to improve
even further on the 306’s reputation for
providing maximum driving enjoyment in a
package that’s space-efficient, comfortable
and attractively styled.
After driving the new 307 range and testing
a manual 2.0 litre version, we’re able to report
that it does live up to those expectations.
The handling and steering are superb,
performance in the 2.0 litre manual is quite
strong, there’s a good combination of occupant
and load space, equipment levels are
extensive, and the car looks good.
Considering what the 307 offers, pricing
isn’t too bad. Initially it will be available only
as a five-door hatchback and the range starts
with the 1.6 litre model. It costs $25,990 in
manual form and $28,190 for the automatic.
The 2.0 litre manual (tested) is $31,490 and
the 2.0 litre automatic is $33,690. The 2.0 litre
turbo diesel version comes with manual
transmission only and is priced at $29,990.
All three versions come with six airbags
(drive and front passenger, front side and
curtain bags), anti-lock brakes with electronic
brake force distribution, climate control air
conditioning, electrically-operated windows
and (heated) exterior mirrors, remote central
locking, tilt and telescopic steering wheel,
engine immobiliser, trip computer and a CD
player.

The Peugeot 205 was introduced in the UK in September 1983 as a five-door Hatchback with a transversely-mounted engine and transmission assembly driving the front wheels. The suspension is of front coil springs and rear transverse torsion bars. Three engine sizes were originally available, featuring a chain driven overhead camshaft design mounted directly over the transmission. The GTi was introduced in the Spring of 1984 and was fitted with a belt-driven overhead camshaft engine with a side-mounted transmission. The GTI engine is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. In October 1984 three-door versions became available, with an X series designation, in addition to the three-door GTI.
